Coming this Summer: South Korean version of ‘The Three Musketeers’

Musketeers are so hot right now.

Few years ago, Hollywood released The Steampunketeers The Three Musketeers; this winter the BBC’s gritty adaption of The Three Musketeers that, despite interesting costume choices, is pretty damn fun came out; and this summer Korean paid TV, TVN, will be producing their own version of the d’Artagnan Romances.

CJ-EM_Song-and-KimSo far TVN is slated to produce three 12-episode seasons shot in China. This version will be getting a Korean-makeover as it’ll be set during 17th Century Korea during the Joseon Dynasty.

Jung Yong-hwa (of K-Pop band CNBLUE) will play d’Artagnan and Lee Jin-wook (Nine: 9 Times Time Travel) will play the historical crown prince Sohyeon of Joseon embodying the role of Athos.

No idea how much of the book will be mixed in with what happened during the Joseon Dynasty (which I know zero about), so it should be interesting. I’ll definitely have to keep an eye out for this.

South Korea had a musical version of the Musketeers that ran from 2010-2011. Also coming soon is the movie The Pirates which also takes place during the Joseon Dynasty.

So maybe the Joseon Dynasty is what’s hot right now. Also musketeers.
