First trailer for NBC’s ‘Crossbones’ released… Blackbeard still sans black beard

The other day we got our first glimpse at Malkovich as Blackbeard sans a black beard… or sans really much facial hair at all. And no hair.

I wondered what the show would actually look like, video wise, and like clockwork NBC has released a two-minute trailer for Crossbones.

Initial thoughts:

– Doesn’t look bad. Production value seems pretty high, which you need for a period show, especially with ship battles.

– Blackbeard saying all the awful things he did are horrible rumors is kinda meh. The dude promoted himself as a madman badass pirate. He was King of the Pirates and King of Marketing in the 18th Century.

– It’s weird to see Richard Coyle in a serious role. He’ll always be Jeff Murdock in Coupling to me. But the trailer makes it look like he can do “serious”, so I’m game.

All in all, the trailer looks better than the promo stills. I’m still having trouble getting over the fact that Blackbeard doesn’t have a black beard, but it seems like this is Edward Teach in retirement or something? Quasi-retirement? Not entirely sure. If so, I hope they explain how he faked his death at Ocracoke, NC.

The series launch is scheduled to premiere May 30 at 10 p.m
