So Hugh Jackman is playing Blackbeard in a Peter Pan movie

I started following Hugh Jackman on Instagram a couple months back. Around that time he buzzed his head and showed off some pictures of him with a big black beard trimmed in a very swashbuckler/piratical fashion. He said he was Blackbeard but I just took that as some sort of jest and figured his new look was for another movie.

I was so wrong.

He’s actually playing Blackbeard.

In a Peter Pan movie.

He published this photo on Sunday.

Blackbeard has some pretty swords.

Anyways, it got me wondering what this movie was all about. I thought it’d be about Blackbeard (which would be really cool) but, as mentioned earlier, it’s for a new Peter Pan movie called Pan. Here’s the synopsis via IMDB:

The story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny — to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

Not sure how Blackbeard got to Neverland but whatevs. At least this Blackbeard has a black beard. Crazy, I know, but some shows just don’t get it.

I posted about this a few weeks ago too. J. M. Barrie tells us the Captain Hook was once “Blackbeard’s bosun,” so I suppose it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine the two of them and the rest of Teach’s crew running amok in Neverland. Although it will be harder to swallow the “Pan” movie premise that young Hook and the boy Pan start out as allies. That’s not the way I tell the story in “Alias Hook,” but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, I guess…

Regardless, I’m interested in seeing Jackman’s Blackbeard.
